(ENOLA, PA) The Lehigh Valley Storm of the Gridiron Developmental Football League kicked off their 2012 season on Sunday versus the defending champion Central Penn Piranha in Enola PA.
In a turnover filled game for both teams, the Storm held the top ranked Piranha scoreless for the first 20 minutes, but several Storm miscues towards the end of the first half would ultimately be the wake-up call the Piranha would need to mount a strong attack and eventually win the game 49-6.
Though the score was lopsided, the Storm played well in certain elements of the game. Coach Ruffino remarked, “Our interior defense was strong and we were able to control the ground game of the Piranha for the most part” Coach Ruffino added “our offensive line was very good at protecting Jamie (Storm Quarterback Jamie Sellers) “so we need to build on getting the timing down between our quarterback and the receivers”. He added “we have to go back to work this week and execute our game plans and come back strong on Saturday.”
The Storm will open their 2012 home schedule this Saturday night, June 9th at 7:05PM versus the Lancaster Lightning at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, PA.
